Up and Coming: Jay Macadocious

For those of you who don't know, Jay Macadocious is a close friend of ours here at Uncharted. He is actually our permanent showcase host, as well as performing on his own time. At only 18, this kid is shooting for the stars, and on track to reach them!! We sat down with him to give a better insight into what he's up to as a rising artist.

Check out what he had to say about himself, his music, and his moves for the near future:

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a young MC from the DMV that loves all kinds of music. I grew up in a multi-ethnic house so I learned to listen to all kinds of music. I heard music ranging from traditional African music to hip-hop to Cuban Salsa, you name it. I heard it all and tried to imitate just about all of them as well. Along with always being a ham in school and watching non-stop TV, I knew show business was something I always wanted to do.

You have your first EP coming out soon. What's your inspiration behind it?

I wouldn't consider this an EP just yet. This tape is a small compilation of certain emotions I wanted to display. Confidence and hope. The whole project was written in a time in which I found great dilemmas and predicaments on a regular basis. Often times I was worn down and beat but I always had confidence and hope that things would turn out alright in the end. What better time to write music than that?

When and where can our readers expect it to be released?

We're aiming for all digital platforms but Youtube, Soundcloud, and BandCamp are a guarantee. I constantly post lots of previews and behind the scenes footage on my Instagram, @ayyejayyb, so follow that & stay in the loop!

If you could hang out with anybody from the past for a day...who would it be and why?

That's a really hard question. I’d probably kick it with James Brown, Nelson Mandela, Obama, Andre 3000 & Kendrick Lamar. I think the amount of knowledge I’d soak up in the conversation is crazy!

Where can the people come support you? Any shows or performances coming up?

I’m actually opening up for Caleborate in DC on the 25th of March. I was listening to a lot of his music before this so I’m actually pretty stoked. Also, you can always find me with the Uncharted family, tearing their stage up.

If you could be any animal in the world, what would it be and why?

I just had a conversation with the homie the other night and someone asked the same question. I don't know, I think I’d be some kind of bird. Birds just kind of do what they please, they sing all day and are always high up in the sky haha.

How would you describe your style?

Ever ate gumbo? Something like that haha. It’s a mix of just about everything and it slaps every time. I’m most comfortable doing something tracks with a live band feel due to my love for jazz and funk but it’s not an issue to turn up a trap track as well.

What are you most excited about being featured on UD?

The viewers that tune in to UD are usually very open-minded and show more appreciation to authenticity and it would mean the world to show them my capabilities. Also, Adam and I become good friends and I love seeing all his progress.

A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

He was probably looking for the Sazón, haha. But he’s gotta wait till we drop it!

One thing he forgot to mention... Uncharted Domain has linked with Kyle Bent to host a show in the DC area in the coming months... and Jay Macadocious and a few other DMV artists will join him. Be on the lookout for more details!!
